Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the autoguiding world and don't want to blow up my Celestron motherboard or anything by connecting something wrong. I've read a few forums that now has me somewhat scared about going forward. Here's my question.
I have a Mac laptop running Windows 10 with PHD2. I have a Celestron AVX mount. How should I connect this up with my laptop and/or guide camera? Should I let the QHY5Lii-M CCD camera do the autoguiding? (i.e. plug the phone jack cable into camera and run that to the autoguiding port on the mount?) OR should I have PHD2 and the laptop do the guiding directly? (I have a USB to Serial adapter and the Serial to autoguiding cable that came with the mount)
I'm also confused because I've read where if you are having the laptop control the mount, then you should plug directly into the hand-controller of the Celestron AVX???? Oi oi oi! I'm hoping this hobby has progressed in 10 years since I last did it. Now I remember one of the reasons why I ran away screaming and pulling my hair out.
Anyway, any concrete direction you can offer so I don't blow up a motherboard or fry my brain would be much appreciated.
Equipment Overview again for Clarity:
* Celestron AVX Mount (with HC:GEM 5.29.6111 firmware and MC:7.08.3071 firmware)
* Mac laptop running Windows 10 in Bootcamp
* USB to Serial Cable Adapter and Serial to 'phone jack' connector for mount
* QHY5Lii-M (Monochrome) autoguiding camera (with appropriate cables)
